For many years I have been
known as Willie Moore's son, which I have always
considered as a great complement. My father became
an associated worker in the I.E.B. (Irish
Evangelical Band) Converted as a young man of
sixteen years of age under the ministry of Miss
Olive Coulter who was conducting a mission at
Florencecourt in Co Fermanagh. She was only a
young girl of sixteen but when she preached on the
text "Come unto me, all ye that labour and
are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my
yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and
lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your
souls." Matthew 11:28-29 my father saw
clearly his need of salvation and when he got
home, he went up to his bedroom and got down on
his knees and asked the Lord Jesus Christ into his
heart and life. He met with God in a very definite
way after the sudden death of his sister Eva and
came into an experience of the fullness of the
Holy Spirit that led him to give up a successful
quarry business and the home farm to give himself
to the work of God. He laboured as an Evangelist
across Northern Ireland for over thirty years. His
greatest burden was for the South of Ireland.
There were not the same opportunities then, as now
to preach the gospel in the south, however this
did not deter him. At the end of the 1940's he
began going across the border to the fairs to
preach in the Open Air. He continued this ministry
for thirty-three years sometimes preaching in 340
- 360 towns and villages across the south of
Ireland during the summer months of July and
August.
When he was not involved in
the Open-Air Campaigns he was conducting missions
in Northern Ireland. My mother joined him in the
work and together they conducted missions in Co.
Tyrone at Bready, Strabane, New Buildings, Cullion
and Donemana. He also held many mission
all around Co. Fermanagh.
